Background

In the summer of 2024, we were instructed to help the school complete a major re-roofing project to the Sixth Form Block at QEGS, Alford.

Our scope of works

The scope of works included a full strip of the existing original slate roof, installation of new battens and breather membrane followed by re-slating. We were only able to salvage approximately 30% of the existing slates and the shortfall was made up of high quality reclaimed Welsh slate. Associated works included a complete upgrade of the lightning conduction system, repairs and decorations to the soffits and fascias, lime repointing and repairs to the 4nr. large chimneys, replacement of all cast iron guttering and insulation to loft spaces. This formed phase 1 of re-roofing and associated works J.H.A Winter & Sons Ltd are carrying out at QEGS Alford across 2024 and 2025. In 2025, we are completing a very similar scope to the grade 2 listed administration block including structural repairs to the bellcote tower.
